Deering Vega Banjo Fallout 3 aim down sights mod. shfpho - Posted - 09/27/2009: 09:21:16 Aug 28, 2012 Trying to date our 'new' banjo. Vega is imprinted on the front of the headstock, Martin and Co. Logo is stamped on back of headstock. There's a Martin decal on the insideof the rim that looks like the Martin that is stamped on headstock. On the rim is stamped the number: 242. I have a Deering Sierra banjo which I bought used. The guy I bought it from did not know the year it was made. (He bought it used and never asked.) Does anyone know how to date a Deering Sierra from the serial number? beegee - Posted - 09/27/2009: 10:08:51
Call Carolina Bridges at Deering is the easiest way. __________________________ 'It is better, of course, to know useless things than to know nothing.' -Seneca strang - Posted - 09/27/2009: 10:33:56 What's the serial number? I have the formula at home but could probably tell you by the number. - = - = - = - = - = - = - = - = - = - = - = - = - Bluegrass -- THE Original Country Music! majorwoody75006 - Posted - 09/27/2009: 11:19:41 The last two numbers of the first seven are the year of production (in other words, numbers in the sixth and seventh position). shfpho - Posted - 09/27/2009: 12:14:43 quote:Originally posted by majorwoody75006 Thanks, Woody. I had googled for that information to no avail, but with your help I was able to refine my search and confirm, sort of, what you said. In this interview with Janet Deering: http://www.ibluegrass.com/vi_posting3.cfm?p__i=834 Janet says: 'Our serial number is made up like this; the first two digits are the month in which it was made, the center digits is how many of that model were made and the last two digits is the year. Then there's a dash followed by the four numbers put on the peg head.' In my case there are actually eight digits preceding the four on the peghead. And the last two are 03, which means it's a 2003.
